The Lowcountry of Charleston, South Carolina is among the top resort destinations in the country for virtually every demographic: individuals, families, vacationers, homebuyers, and so on. Premier Real Estate is also ever-in-demand, especially in the many master-planned, oceanfront and river communities in the area: Kiawah Island, Seabrook Island, Kiawah River, Daniel Island, Sullivans Island, Isle of Palm, Daniel Island, and so forth. More and more people are moving to Charleston and the surrounding Sea Islands each year.

As a realtor who moved to Charleston from New York years ago (she and her family live on Seabrook Island), Michelle Almeyda-Wiedemuth understands all the ins, outs, dos, and don’ts of relocating. She also knows how important it is to find the right community for you and your family. As she says:
“Charleston is a year-round destination that appeals to everyone, from the young to the young at heart. Kids love it, grandparents love it, moms and dads love it. There’s something for everyone. But, if you want to move here, you have to make sure you find the best place for you—there are a lot of choices—do you want oceanfront or a river community? How about marsh? A sea island? Do you want to be close to downtown? Do you play golf? Do you boat? Or fish? And what about your kids or significant other? These are all big questions that need answering BEFORE you begin to actually look for a house.”

Q + A with Michelle
Question: As a realtor, what is something you wish you could convey to would-be buyers?
Michelle: Two things: 1) work with a realtor who really listens to you and 2) someone who has the knowledge and experience to make things happen.
Question: What are some of the Lowcountry communities you in that potential homebuyers should know about?
Michelle: Well, there are a lot, so defining what exactly you want and need is critical. Many people know about Kiawah Island and Seabrook Island, but there are plenty of other premier, master-planned communities to choose from. Like Kiawah River, for instance, which appeals to families that really appreciate that Lowcountry, outdoor, river lifestyle, with some resort-style amenities. And they’ve just introduced the fantastic new Auberge hotel The Dunlin. Or what about a place like Oakfield on John’s Island, which might be more kid-friendly and desirable to younger, like-minded families. There are so many possibilities.
Question: How do you help individuals and families with kids relocating or soon-to-be retirees from becoming overwhelmed?
Michelle: It can be if you’re not prepared. That’s why it’s important to find an agent who specializes in the Charleston Lowcountry and has the experience and will connect all the dots to get you the right house in the right community for whatever particular stage of your life you are in.
“Michelle is the best. She’s a great listener, really helped us work through some fundamental questions regarding our priorities and needs. And whether it was at Seabrook or St. John’s Island, Michelle was on it and sweat all the details: the inspections, surveys, permits, local contractors, and on and on. She kept us one step ahead and made it fun.”
